Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour says New Zealand will avoid the mistakes of its Covid-19 response when managing potential fuel shortages, stressing that restrictions would only be introduced if supply risks become critical.

Speaking to the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, he outlined five key lessons from the pandemic, including avoiding panic-driven decision-making, protecting education, involving the public in policy decisions, upholding democratic principles, and learning from international responses.

Seymour emphasised that current fuel stocks ‘remain stable’ and that the government is prioritising careful planning over public theatrics, with demand-side controls considered only as a last resort.

He also rejected calls to reopen the Marsden Point refinery, arguing it would not improve supply resilience, and highlighted the need for fiscal discipline and “cool heads” to navigate global disruptions without repeating past policy errors.

  1. Does this mean he’s going to mandate an injection which kills and injures a significant percentage of the population to save fuel?

    • No, the government’s weapon against the people is scarcity. We will be obstructed from legitimate access to our own resources.

      • We already are… and Winston was asked years ago, I remember it… why can’t we use our own oil… he laughed and said no… because even if the refinery were open and working, and owned and run by NZ rather than private (Ampol Australia for one) we have contracted the sale of almost all of NZ’s own oil..we have been importing fuel crude to refine here… now we import it already refined… who do we export to? China, Indonesia and Singapore… it’s all a huge lie and a smear to destroy our freedoms one way or the other…we produce plenty of oil here in NZ and we cannot use it… they sold it all off…

    • BTW Look at the poster behind the poser: “Connecting business and government”.. You can’t make up that sht. THat is the definition of fascism.

  2. In other words they don’t have a clue….and because they have been lining the Ukraine Goblins pockets with our tax dollars the chances of Russian oil coming our way are pretty slim.

    • I am sure they can still buy Russian oil if their bosses allow them to do so. It is in Russian interest to sell somel at premium price.

  3. “He also rejected calls to re-open the Marsden Point Refinery…”
What does THAT tell you about his stance on New Zealand becoming energy independent?
VOTE THESE PRICE-GOUGING GLOBAL OIL STOCKHOLDING MONSTERS OUT OF OFFICE IN NOVEMBER!

  4. I can’t take this little church parliament wantabe dictator seriously anymore. The image of him cowering in the Beehive during the ‘dark days’ when we the people were looking for a leader can’t be erased from my memory.

    • Yes, I watched that sorry whinge a*se as he was standing in the deserted beehive demanding a total road-block lock-down hermetically enforced to can Auckland.

  5. Of course he does because surprise surprise he is cabal owned like all of them a fuel lockdowns were always planned next in their little UN Agenda 30 plan to have everyone in 15 minute cities.

  6. Prancing yapping pink tied irrelevant little man. He has no power to change anything for the better, but he’ll grab the opportunity to be centre stage and pretend he can. He revealed his true cowardly character in the convid years. We expect communists like jacinda to behave like communists, but David the one size fits all vaccine passports pushing fraudster is no libertarian, he’s a fascist apologist. Sorry David, you should step down. You’re giving ACT a bad name.

  7. Seymour could be Prime minister if he got Drilling the CANTERBURY BIGHT & the GREAT SOUTHERN BASIN.
Team USA won’t let NZ do it you know??

    • and then watch as it sails offshore because it’s been under contract sold overseas to CHINA, SINGAPORE AND INDONESIA… for decades since Roger Douglas and Longe days… yes that’s right, you cannot use NZ oil in NZ… it’s been sold off… what was the refinery for? And yes it’s sold off too, we don’t own it, and we don’t control what the private owners want to do… they are all in on this… that refinery had to have imported crude to refine… not ours, that’s sold offshore… when the current owners shut it down to stop refining oil, we had to import it refined… so you see, we have been screwed for many many years regards our ability to fuel this country without relying on shipping and other countries..all countries are required to sell off their fuel to the big oil companies and they control everything…these pollies here Seymour, Jones, Winnie, they are all lying about this…

  8. We cannot use our own oil now… and Winston was asked years ago, I remember it… why can’t we use our own oil… he laughed and said no… because even if the refinery were open and working, and owned and run by NZ rather than private (Ampol Australia for one) we have contracted the sale of almost all of NZ’s own oil..we have been importing fuel crude to refine here… now we import it already refined… who do we export to? China, Indonesia and Singapore… it’s all a huge lie and a smear to destroy our freedoms one way or the other…we produce plenty of oil here in NZ and we cannot use it… they sold it all off…And yes, Seymour was ready to ram all of us with jabs… in any way shape or form and he is gving ACT a bad name too… I will never be able to forget or forgive anyone, including Winston, who said stuff like that… they won’t do the dirty on us again eh? Yeah right and Ardern at one time said jabs and masks would not be mandatory… SHE LIED JUST LIKE THEY ALL LIE NOW…

  9. The weasel facial-featured seymour is the talker now? Where’s the slimy serpent-faced snake luxon? Oh, just on another overseas tax-payer -funded junket giving “presentations” at “corporate conferences” on why quadrupling electricity prices whilst simultaenously banning private ownership of petrol/diesel cars is the best way forward for full globalist power and control over the 99% ” loser non-elite classes”
