Videos shared online reveal scenes of rioting and property damage, with some individuals seen smashing ambulance windows.
Authorities have confirmed none of the injuries sustained by the bishop or the other victims in the sickening attack are life-threatening.
The disturbing footage captured the moment of the attack, where the bishop was speaking before being approached by a young man who made stabbing motions. The bishop fell to the ground amidst screams from the congregation, prompting some to rush forward to intervene.
Emergency services responded swiftly, transporting the injured to hospital. A police operation is underway in Wakeley, and authorities have urged the public to avoid the area.
This incident follows a recent stabbing tragedy at Bondi Westfield Shopping Centre, although there’s currently no evidence linking the two events.
