Stephen Stone, who has spent 25 years in prison for the murder of West Auckland tyre-fitter Dean Fuller-Sandys, has been granted bail.
Stone was originally imprisoned in 1999 for the murder, along with the rape and murder of Leah Stephens. However, earlier this month, the Court of Appeal quashed his conviction, as well as those of Gail Maney, Colin Maney, and Mark Henriksen, ordering a retrial for Stone.
Stone’s lawyer, Paul Wicks, confirmed the bail decision, stating: “An application for bail was filed in the High Court, not opposed by the Crown, and he’s been granted bail today with conditions.”
As I understand 2 witnesses have been completely discredited, 3 out of 4 other people in the matter have had their convictions quash.
When is the trial for the 2 witnesses who were discredited?
What involvement have the police had to bring about this man being imprisoned for 26 years?

That there is no instant analysis of who effed up is even more boggling.

If miscarriage of justice is proven, will the perpetrators be held accountable?
Deeply disappointing that the retrial can be ordered this long after the original trial and when convictions quashed, it seems despite the inconsistencies and false testimony from witnesses involved themselves in a crime and a declaration there had bn a gross miscarriage of justice Stephen must again sit through this flawed system for retrial. The police just don’t want their corrupt and dubious practices to create evidence to come out so they save face, but what happens to Stephen’s rights…
