US federal prosecutors are reportedly preparing grand jury subpoenas seeking documents and communications linked to the 2017 intelligence report that underpinned the Russiagate allegations.
The subpoenas will target records related to the Intelligence Community Assessment on Russian Election Interference, commissioned by then-President Barack Obama and released in January 2017.
The investigation is led by US attorney Jason Reding Quinones, who has pledged to “restore impartial justice”.
The report, which accused Russia of interfering in the 2016 election, has been widely criticised by former intelligence officials and lawmakers as politically motivated and false.
Declassified documents and released emails have suggested that Obama-era officials manipulated intelligence to support the narrative. Former FBI Director James Comey has pleaded not guilty to charges of making false statements and obstructing justice related to the affair, with his trial scheduled for January.
