Wen appeared frequently on CNN and wrote for the NYT during the COVID pandemic, where she advocated the harshest measures against the unvaccinated.
Those measures included:
- Banning unvaccinated from travel, especially air travel.
- Denying the unvaccinated ‘freedom’.
- Comparing the unvaccinated to drunk drivers, who put society at risk of harm.
- Advocated for indoor mask mandates, including for children in class.
- Digital proof of vaccination.
Wen infamously stated in interviews:
‘We can’t trust the unvaccinated.’
‘The moment of freedom for you is when you get vaccinated.’
‘We need to look at the decision to remain unvaccinated the same as driving while intoxicated.’
‘I don’t understand this ‘personal choice’ some people are making, I mean, what kind of personal choice is it to infect other people, including other people’s children?’
In tweets on August 15, Wen began to align herself with recent CDC guidance which recommends removal of all restrictions on the unvaccinated. Her apparent ‘change of heart’ however, did not sit well with social media users, many of whom consider her to be ‘evil’.
Wen’s 15 August tweets read:
‘Though CDC has aligned COVID guidance to meet where most American’s are, there are some who promote continued restrictions.
Are they consistent themselves, masking indoors, forgoing [sic] indoor events/dining, etc? If not, hypocrisy fuels further distrust in public health.
Everyone should chose the level of precaution appropriate to their family situation, without judgment. I am concerned about those who advocate for broad restrictions for all publicly, but don’t live those values in their personal lives. That hurts trust in public health.’
The response was brutal:
Imagine how many people’s lives she destroyed with her arrogance and greed.
She’s a dispicable person who is just doing damage control on her public image. Now that we all know she was lying she incrementally changes her stance thinking we won’t notice.
This has been a crime against humanity. Never forget what these people have done.
She’s a hypocrite who wants to stay relevant. So many people and their livelihoods lost based on opinions like hers. Total shame.
Man, this psycho was all over the news when this stuff was at it’s peak. I got a sense that she was being paid off. You’ve recapped her far out statements pretty well. She especially pissed me off when she started pushing it on kids. As a father, this infuriated me immensely.
I have a lot of empathy for those who reacted out of fear in the last 2 years. I even lost a good career because of it. However, I have zero time or empathy for those who perpetrated the fear. None.
