Dr. James Thorp, a recent guest on Counterspin, debunked claims by Turner that the COVID mRNA jab was safe and effective for pregnant women and their babies.
Thorp is a Board-Certified Obstetrician Gynecologist and Maternal Fetal Medicine Physician with over 43 years of obstetrical experience.
Dr. Nikki Turner is a Wellington based GP and is also the Director of the Immunisation Advisory Centre, University of Auckland, where she is also an honorary professor.
In a public campaign Dr. Turner has advertised the jab as safe & effective for pregnancy and that the antibodies are beneficial for the developing fetus.
She said:
‘It’s really good to know the COVID vaccine is very effective in pregnant women – got lots of interantional data now showing that the vaccination works really well with pregnant women, it’s got a really good safety profile. And I think importantly for us, we know that it will stop us getting very sick or dying if we do get COVID when we’re pregnant.
‘I guess the best news of all is that if you do get a vaccination when you’re pregnant, that your immune response antibodies will be passed onto your baby, so when your newborn baby comes, they will also have some protection against COVID.’
However, Thorp disagreed, claiming Turner was ‘wrong on every count.’
During the interview with Counterspin Thorp proceeded to debunk Turner’s claims one by one, citing actual peer-reviewed studies.
Thorp challenged Turner to a debtate – on Counterspin or any other platform.
‘Dr. Nikki Turner, if you’re listening, let’s have a public debate on this platform. Let’s get together and hash out our data…Let’s debate this collegially. I will do so respectfully, as I’m sure you will do too.’
