Wattie’s cuts more Hawke’s Bay crops

Watties news

Wattie’s New Zealand, owned by US food giant Kraft-Heinz, is further scaling back its sourcing of key Hawke’s Bay crops—beetroot, corn, and tomatoes—following an earlier decision to reduce canned peach production.

The company says ongoing competition from cheap imports, reduced post-cyclone demand, and rising costs have forced the cutbacks, impacting long-time grower partners.

Wattie’s has accused overseas producers, particularly from China, of dumping low-cost goods in New Zealand and filed a complaint with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) in July. MBIE has confirmed it is investigating the claims, with preliminary findings due in November and final recommendations to the minister by January 2026.

  1. Isn’t this just shocking! One of the most fertile regions of the world going to gorse thanks to globalists and greed. WTF.

  2. Farmers should sell direct to consumers. We attend the local veg market every other Saturday and its always well received by locals.

  3. The government should deregulate the industry so to allow new smaller local startups to fill the vacuum, the problem is over regulation, not China. How hard is it to can veggies and fruit?

  4. “Control the food, and you control the population.” – Henry Kissinger
Look at the farmland being spoiled by Terminator Seeds,…farmland bought and then not put into production by Zionist and Communist entities…look at the UNDERPRODUCTION of food and the destruction / shut-downs of support mechanisms (ie dairy and freezing works) that are MEANT to cause food shortages, while the grocery chains (J3wi$h-owned and Zionist controlled) hyperinflate prices making food unaffordable for the elderly who the Zionist-based PTB want dead anyway (useless eaters..).
It’s come to the point that the only political party that will STOP unaffordable food, disease from lack of the same, will be the NEW ZEALAND LOYAL PARTY!

  5. No selling direct to consumers won’t work to understand why go watch vids on it as it requires co-ordination & logistics. If it did work don’t you think farmers would cut out the middlemen come on folks put some thought into it

  6. Need to get away from foreign owned giant corporations..basing our future on that system is going to fail… and we need to learn to eat fresh food… from the ground..we also need to stop spraying the crap out of everything with poisons so selling direct to Mum and kids is no longer a danger… at the farmers market… NZ is built on exporting massive production quantities of food and to see this coming well it was coming and growers in NZ have had it hard for a long enough time… they were always being jerked around by the corporates… again, it is time to change course… or else we won’t survive…financially and ultimately physically…and like NZ Loyal and other groups are trying to tell everyone… they do not care at all about that… No they don’t care about you or me…George Carlin said it beautifully…. “It’s a club people, and you ain’t in it”….it’s time to get out of the club… before it kills us all…
