The White House has unveiled a sweeping 20-point peace plan aimed at ending nearly two years of war in Gaza, centred on an immediate ceasefire, release of hostages, and a phased Israeli military withdrawal.
Under the proposal, all Israeli hostages would be released within 72 hours of Israel’s acceptance of the deal, in exchange for the release of thousands of Palestinian prisoners and remains.
During the exchange, military operations would halt and Israeli forces would withdraw to agreed lines inside Gaza. Amnesty would be offered to Hamas members who surrender weapons and accept peaceful co-existence, with safe passage available for those wishing to leave the territory.
The plan emphasizes Gaza becoming a “terror-free zone” with international aid resuming immediately, including the reopening of the Rafah crossing to ease famine conditions.
Hamas would be excluded from any role in Gaza’s governance.
Instead, a “transitional technocratic Palestinian committee”, overseen by an international “Board of Peace” led by Donald Trump and joined by figures such as Tony Blair, would administer the territory.
The plan rules out Israeli occupation or annexation and promises freedom of movement for residents.
Gaza’s long-term redevelopment would be tied to a “Trump economic development plan,” envisioning hi-tech cities along the Mediterranean. While the proposal hints at a distant pathway to Palestinian statehood, it remains conditional on reforms within the Palestinian Authority and a shift in attitudes between Israelis and Palestinians.
