The United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) delegation has arrived in Honiara, Solomon Islands, for the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Leaders’ Meeting.
The crisis in West Papua is intensifying. Over 100,000 Papuans are currently displaced due to Indonesian militarisation. Those who speak out are silenced through repression, torture, and killings. In the past few months, numerous massacres have been committed in Puncak and Intan Jaya.
At this critical time, the ULMWP is urging Melanesian and Pacific leaders to reaffirm their 2019 call for Indonesia to allow immediate access for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to visit West Papua. More than 110 UN members have demanded such a visit. Yet Indonesia continues to block access, defying the will of the international community and undermining PIF itself.
