Australia tighten Ashes grip as England falter in Adelaide heat

England’s Ashes campaign edged closer to collapse on day two of the third Test at the Adelaide Oval as Australia’s bowlers dismantled the tourists despite ideal batting conditions and renewed controversy around Snicko.

With temperatures soaring above 40 degrees, England slid to 213 for eight in reply to Australia’s 371, leaving them 158 runs behind and under immense pressure.

The innings unravelled not through reckless strokeplay but through sustained, high-quality Australian bowling, with early damage leaving England reeling at 42 for three.

Ollie Pope and Jamie Smith were the only batters dismissed while attacking, Smith finding himself at the centre of another contentious DRS decision that further eroded confidence in the technology.

Ben Stokes showed defiance with a labourious unbeaten 45, while Harry Brook and Jofra Archer offered brief resistance, but Pat Cummins, Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon ensured Australia remained firmly in control, pushing England to the brink of another Ashes defeat.
