New Zealand seized complete control of the third and final Test against the West Indies at Mount Maunganui after a record-breaking opening day built around twin centuries from Tom Latham and Devon Conway.
The Black Caps piled on 334 for one at stumps, highlighted by a massive 323-run opening partnership that left the visitors toiling for most of the day.
Latham was finally dismissed late in the evening session for 137, while Conway remained unbeaten on 178 despite battling a left-hand injury. New Zealand set the tone early with an easy first session, reached the 300 mark shortly after tea, and capitalised on missed chances as the West Indies struggled to find breakthroughs.
The Black Caps, who lead the series 1–0, are firmly on top heading into day two.
