The New Zealand Breakers claimed their second victory in three games with a hard-fought 102–96 win over the last-placed Cairns Taipans, overcoming a 35-point explosion from hometown star Jack McVeigh.
After a strong opening quarter set the tone, the Breakers briefly lost momentum before pulling ahead by 11 in a dominant third spell, giving them the buffer needed to close the game out. I
zaiah Brockington was outstanding with 22 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, while Sam Mennenga also dropped 22 points, and Parker Jackson-Cartwright added 20 points, six assists and three steals.
The result lifts the Breakers to a 5–10 record and seventh place in the NBL, while Cairns slump to their fourth straight defeat amid a mounting injury crisis. With several key players sidelined and Tall Black Mojave King limited after a head knock, the Taipans struggled to match the visitors’ depth.
The Breakers now pause for the FIBA international window before hosting the Sydney Kings in Hamilton on 3 December.
