Australia’s Diamonds have reclaimed the Constellation Cup after defeating the Silver Ferns 12-11 in extra time of a tense decider in Christchurch.
The Ferns had produced a stunning comeback earlier, winning the fourth test 62-57 to level the series 2-2 and force the playoff. Despite a spirited performance led by Grace Nweke’s 56 goals at 95 percent accuracy and strong defensive work from Catherine Hall, the Diamonds held their nerve in the final minutes to secure victory.
The result ends a dramatic series that saw the Ferns rally after losing the first two tests heavily and capped a turbulent six weeks marked by the reinstatement of coach Dame Noeline Taurua.
