Lulu Sun has been crowned the WTA Tour’s Newcomer of the Year following a breakthrough season that saw her rise from outside the top 200 to finish ranked 40th.
The 23-year-old made headlines with a stunning quarter-final run at Wimbledon as a qualifier, claiming her first win over a top-10 player, and reached her first WTA Tour final in Monterrey.
Born in Te Anau, raised in Switzerland, and educated in the US, Sun switched her allegiance to New Zealand this year, representing New Zealand at the Paris Olympics.
