Man Utd in talks with Ruben Amorim as potential Erik ten Hag successor

Manchester United have entered discussions with Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim as a possible replacement for Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed on Monday following a disappointing start to the season.

Amorim, 39, is a respected coach with two Portuguese league titles, including Sporting’s first in nearly two decades, and is emerging as the leading candidate for the United role.

The depth of United’s talks with Amorim remains unclear, as does whether other options are still being considered.

Currently, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Ten Hag’s former assistant, serves as interim manager, but his duration in this role and United’s plans for the Carabao Cup clash against Leicester remain unspecified. While compensation costs are a consideration, they are not seen as a significant obstacle to United’s potential move for Amorim, who has a contract with Sporting until June 2026.
