Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips combined for commanding centuries in a match-defining partnership that propelled New Zealand to a 41-run victory over India in the third ODI and secured a 2–1 series comeback.
After being sent in on a traditionally high-scoring Holkar Stadium surface and slumping to 58–3, the Black Caps rebuilt emphatically as Mitchell and Phillips piled on 219 runs, setting India a challenging target of 337. The hosts faltered early in the chase before Virat Kohli anchored the innings with a resolute 124, finding support from Nitish Kumar Reddy and later Harshit Rana, but rising run-rate pressure and a decisive spell from Zak Foulkes swung momentum back to New Zealand.
Foulkes removed Rana and Siraj in successive deliveries before Kohli’s dismissal two overs later effectively ended India’s resistance, sealing a series win for the visitors ahead of their upcoming five-match T20 series starting on 21 January as both sides build toward the T20 World Cup.
