Cycling star Matthew Richardson has announced his decision to switch nationality from Australia to Great Britain, just days after winning three Olympic medals at the Paris 2024 Games.
Born in Maidstone, Kent, Richardson moved to Australia at age nine, where he quickly ascended in the cycling world, securing national titles and representing Australia in the Olympics.
The 25-year-old revealed on social media that his decision to return to his birthplace and join the Great British Cycling Team was made after careful consideration of his career and future.
Richardson, who earned silver medals in the sprint and keirin, and a bronze in the team sprint for Australia, expressed deep respect for his former team while sharing his excitement for the new chapter in his career.
The switch has been officially approved by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), and Richardson is now ready to compete under the British flag.
