Sea Eagles surge into top four as Rabbitohs rue controversial call

Manly continued its strong form under coach Kieran Foran with a 28-14 victory over the South Sydney Rabbitohs, moving provisionally into the NRL’s top four.

The Sea Eagles overcame an early deficit and a sin-binning to fullback Clayton Faulalo, but the match was overshadowed by a disputed second-half try after officials ruled Ben Trbojevic had not knocked on during the preceding play-the-ball. South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett criticised the decision, which could not be reviewed by the Bunker under current rules.

Faulalo later left the field with a hamstring strain, while Trbojevic scored a key try as Manly pulled away. In other NRL news, Queensland and Brisbane Broncos forward Patrick Carrigan has been ruled out for six weeks after undergoing surgery on a syndesmosis injury, ending his involvement in the remaining State of Origin matches.
