The Silver Ferns claimed their first Commonwealth Games netball gold medal since 2010, defeating Jamaica 56-48 in Glasgow after an outstanding tournament that saw them win seven matches in nine days despite injuries, limited squad depth and significant off-court turmoil.
The Ferns combined disciplined defence, clinical shooting from Grace Nweke, and composed performances across the court to control the final, capping a remarkable campaign under coach Dame Noeline Taurua, who returned to the role only weeks before the Games following a lengthy suspension.
The victory provides a major boost for New Zealand netball at a time when the sport faces uncertainty over the future of its domestic competition and follows years of instability within the national programme.
