The Silver Ferns claimed their third-ever Constellation Cup victory after defeating Australia’s Diamonds 61-43 in Perth, marking the first time since 2006 that they’ve won three consecutive games against the world champions.
Despite a level first quarter and Australia’s defensive adjustments, the Silver Ferns maintained composure, pulling ahead 28-26 by halftime.
New Zealand’s defense tightened in the third quarter, outscoring Australia 18-9, while MVP Kate Heffernan and shooter Grace Nweke, who scored 47 goals at 94%, played crucial roles.
The win also gives New Zealand a shot at their first-ever series sweep when the teams face off in Melbourne.
