Gary Stead’s seven-year tenure as Black Caps head coach has ended, marking the close of a successful era in New Zealand cricket.
Under Stead’s leadership, the team won the inaugural World Test Championship in 2021, achieved a rare 3-0 Test sweep over India, reached five ICC finals, and held top rankings in Test and ODI formats.
Known for building on the foundation left by Brendon McCullum and Mike Hesson, Stead rejuvenated the side with the emergence of talents like Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway.
While stepping back from white-ball coaching, he was ultimately ruled out of the all-format head coach role as NZC moves to a single coach model. Stead said he will take time to recharge but plans to continue coaching elsewhere.
