New Zealander Sarah Wynn-Williams’ book Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed and Lost Idealism has debuted at number one on the New York Times bestseller list, despite Meta’s successful bid to ban her from promoting it.
Released on March 11, the book details her experiences working at tech giant Meta from 2011 to 2017, including allegations of sexual harassment by executive Joel Kaplan and efforts to enter the Chinese market by appeasing government censors.
Meta, citing a non-disparagement agreement, secured an arbitration ruling barring Wynn-Williams from making derogatory statements or promoting her book.
Despite this, the book has gained significant traction, also ranking fourth on Amazon’s bestseller list.
