India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has recovered a black box from the wreckage of the Air India Boeing 787 crash in Ahmedabad, marking a key development in the probe into the tragedy.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu confirmed the flight data recorder was located within 28 hours of the crash, which claimed 241 lives, including at least eight people on the ground, when the London-bound jet crashed shortly after take-off.
The discovery of the black box is expected to significantly aid the ongoing investigation, which is being assisted by experts from the US, UK, and Boeing.
While the sole survivor, British national Vishwashkumar Ramesh, recovers in hospital, families of victims continue to await identification of loved ones through DNA, as much of the wreckage remains scattered across the Meghani Nagar crash site.
