Australia to donate more Abrams tanks to Ukraine than the US

Australia has announced it will donate 49 of its retired M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, surpassing the 31 Abrams tanks sent by the US earlier in 2023.

This donation comes after months of requests from Kiev, as Australia retired its older M1A1 tanks in July 2023 in preparation for newer M1A2 models. The tanks, although nearing the end of their service life, are still considered capable and will either be repaired or used for spare parts before being shipped to Ukraine.

The donation follows Ukraine’s failed spring offensive in 2023, where Western-supplied tanks, including US Abrams and UK Challenger 2 vehicles, proved vulnerable to Russian drones and artillery.

While the tanks were not the decisive factor Ukraine had hoped for, Australia’s decision underscores its commitment to supporting Ukraine. Meanwhile, Russia continues to warn that Western arms deliveries only prolong the conflict without changing its outcome, despite Western assurances that they are not direct participants in the war.

  1. Target practice for the Russians. It is delusional thinking “that despite Western assurances that they are not direct participants in the war”.
    Oh yes you are Aussie.

  2. Keep the tanks at home in Oz…you may need them when World War 3 goes full hot and an invasion takes place on Australian soil…!
You can paint them blue as well…, to cancel the frequencies of Directed Energy Weapons.
