Stephen Chamberlain, the co-defendant of tech billionaire Mike Lynch, who is among the six missing after a yacht disappeared off the coast of Sicily, has died after being struck by a car in Cambridgeshire.

Chamberlain, who alongside Lynch had faced and been acquitted of fraud and conspiracy charges in the U.S., was hit while out running and passed away after a brief period on life support. His lawyer Gary Lincenberg confirmed the news.

Chamberlain’s death comes just days after Lynch criticised the American justice system following their acquittal, stressing that his wealth was pivotal in his ability to clear their names.

Lynch, who had been extradited to the U.S. and ultimately acquitted, remains missing after a ‘violent storm’ struck the yacht he was on near Sicily. The tragedy has drawn further attention to Lynch’s calls for greater protection of British citizens against foreign legal systems.
