Democrat Senator accused of sex tape blackmail

Dalya Attar news

U.S. federal prosecutors have charged Democratic Party Maryland state senator Dalya Attar with extortion, alleging she orchestrated a blackmail plot to silence a former campaign worker using secretly recorded explicit videos.

According to an indictment unsealed on Thursday, Attar—who made history as Maryland’s first Orthodox Jewish female senator—conspired with her brother, Joseph Attar, and Baltimore police officer Kalman Finkelstein to prevent the ex-employee from speaking out during her 2022 re-election campaign.

Court documents claim the group used a GPS tracker and hidden cameras disguised as smoke detectors to monitor the victim and record her with a married man.

Prosecutors say Attar discussed the plan in WhatsApp messages, writing that she wanted the woman to be “a nonissue.” Joseph Attar allegedly later approached the victim’s lover, threatening to release the footage unless the woman stayed silent. All three defendants have been charged with extortion, wiretapping, and related offenses, and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
