Dutch police face wave of New Year’s Eve violence

Dutch police say New Year’s Eve descended into chaos across the Netherlands, with officers and emergency crews facing what was described as an unprecedented level of violence fuelled by fireworks.

Police were pelted with explosives in several cities, petrol bombs were thrown in Breda, and reports of attacks on police and firefighters emerged nationwide as celebrations spiralled out of control.

In Amsterdam, a 19th-century landmark, the Vondelkerk, was badly damaged by fire in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

The blaze caused the collapse of the church’s 50-metre tower and severely damaged the roof, though authorities believe the main structure will remain standing.

Elsewhere, the night proved deadly, with a 17-year-old boy and a 38-year-old man killed in separate fireworks incidents.

Hospitals were also stretched, including Rotterdam’s eye hospital, which treated 14 patients, most of them minors, for serious eye injuries. The violence has intensified debate ahead of a nationwide ban on unofficial fireworks due in 2026, after record spending on fireworks this year despite growing concerns over public safety.

  1. Funny, I don’t recall the Dutch behaving like this? Many who came to NZ after WWII, were well behaved and integrated comfortably. Surely, this isn’t our good friend “diversity”? Inconceivable, surely?

  2. What happens in the west when libtard & commie politics & politicians act feminine with feminine responses & laws. Weakness invites aggression is the end result..
