Five people were wounded in a stabbing attack at New York City’s Penn Station on Sunday evening (local time), prompting a major police response and a search that ended with the suspect’s arrest.
Emergency officials said one victim suffered serious injuries, two were moderately injured and two others sustained minor wounds. All were transported to hospital for treatment. Authorities believe the incident was a random act of violence, with US media reporting the suspect was experiencing mental health issues before being taken into custody by Amtrak police.
The attack occurred as New York ramps up security ahead of a visit by Donald Trump, who is expected to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals at nearby Madison Square Garden.
In response, city officials have introduced additional security measures, including a no-bag policy and the cancellation of an outdoor watch party.

Old Mamdani had a town-
dei-dei-o
And in his town he had some knives-
dei-dei-o
With a stabbing here, & a stabbing there,
Here a knife, there a knife
Everywhere a rusty knife
Old Mamdani had a town
dei-dei-o!
AND REMEMBER-
Octopuses collect diving knives, so we have a knife for every tentacle found on the ocean floor!
