GOP retains House control for unified government under Trump

US House news
Capitol Hill, Washington DC.

The Republican Party is projected to retain its majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, ensuring continued GOP control over both chambers of Congress alongside a conservative-leaning Supreme Court.

Thw outcome further reinforces Donald Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris, marking a significant Republican sweep in the recent elections. By securing at least 218 seats in the House, the GOP is set to steer the legislative agenda despite a few seat losses to the Democrats on November 5.

Trump praised House Speaker Mike Johnson for his leadership.

With the Senate also under Republican control following a 53-seat majority win, the GOP now has the leverage to drive legislation aligned with Trump’s priorities on issues like border security, economic reform, and foreign policy.

In a statement, Speaker Johnson highlighted the election’s reflection of American preferences for “secure borders, lower costs, and peace through strength.”

Political analysts have noted the Republican triumph as indicative of a potential ideological shift in the U.S., suggesting that voter discontent over inflation and progressive policies might be reshaping the nation’s political landscape.
