Kushner says Hamas ‘showing good faith’ in Gaza ceasefire deal

Hamas appears to be acting in good faith and working to uphold its ceasefire agreement with Israel, according to senior US negotiator Jared Kushner.

Speaking on CBS’ 60 Minutes Kushner said mediators had reported that the Palestinian group was making genuine efforts to locate and return the bodies of Israeli hostages, as required under the deal.

“So far, they are looking to honour their agreement,” Kushner said, while noting the situation “could break down at any minute.” He added that Washington is urging both sides to focus on implementing the ceasefire rather than assigning blame.

Kushner and fellow US envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Israel on Monday to discuss the next stage of the Gaza truce. Their visit followed renewed violence in Rafah, where Israeli strikes killed more than 40 people after what Israel said was a Hamas ceasefire violation—claims the group denied, saying the incident stemmed from an IDF bulldozer accidentally detonating an unexploded bomb.

Despite the flare-up, Israel later said it had resumed enforcing the truce. However, tensions remain high, with Israel’s national security minister calling for a full return to war, arguing that the surviving hostages have now been recovered and “action against Hamas” should resume immediately.
