Elon Musk has reignited his feud with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), calling the Jewish civil rights group a “hate group” that “hates Christians” in a post on X.
His remarks came in response to claims that the ADL regards Christianity as “extremist”, sparking support from right-wing figures including U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna and activist Laura Loomer, who went as far as urging the ADL be labeled a terror organization.
The controversy centres on the ADL’s documentation of “Christian Identity,” an alleged “white supremacist ideology” portraying Jews as Satan’s descendants.
The ADL clarified that its criticism targets this extremist theology, not Christianity itself, with CEO Jonathan Greenblatt stressing the organisation’s “strong Christian membership” and support.
The clash highlights Musk’s shifting relationship with the ADL, which once defended him in 2017 over an alleged Nazi-style salute.
Since buying Twitter in 2022, Musk has frequently attacked the ADL, accusing it of driving advertisers away from X, endorsing antisemitic narratives, and threatening lawsuits. His decision to reinstate anti-Zionist influencers like Nick Fuentes has fuelled concerns from civil rights groups, who say Musk’s platform changes are “emboldening hate speech”.
