Elon Musk has fired back at German legacy media magazine Der Spiegel after it labelled him “public enemy No. 2” and accused him of collaborating with Donald Trump to undermine ‘liberal democracy’.

The magazine’s article, featuring a provocative cover with Musk’s face merging with Trump’s, claimed the tech mogul has aligned himself with the political right and become a “threat to democracy”, drawing parallels to historical figures like Adolf Hitler.

In response, Musk, speaking at a town hall in Pennsylvania, dismissed the accusations, affirming his commitment to democracy and the U.S. Constitution.

“I’m pro-democracy. I’m literally trying to uphold the Constitution and ensure we have a free and fair election,” he said, reacting with surprise to the intensity of the criticism, particularly from leftist commentators. Musk also announced plans to increase his security in light of the accusations.

A vocal advocate of free speech, Musk has expressed concern about rising censorship in the U.S. and has thrown his support behind Trump, following an assassination attempt on the former president.

Trump, in turn, has promised to appoint Musk to lead a government efficiency commission should he regain the presidency.
