A fire erupted at an oil refinery in Russia’s Ryazan Region following an overnight Ukrainian drone assault, with Russian authorities attributing the blaze to falling debris from an intercepted unmanned aircraft.
Footage circulating online showed flames at the facility, located less than 200 kilometres southeast of Moscow. Russia’s Defence Ministry reported that its forces had destroyed four Flamingo cruise missiles and 69 fixed-wing drones during a three-hour period on Thursday morning.
The incident followed reported Ukrainian strikes against refineries in Ryazan and Saratov the previous day, as attacks on Russian energy infrastructure continued. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kiev would resume targeting Russian refineries following a three-day suspension introduced under pressure from US President Donald Trump.
However, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov disputed claims that the attacks had stopped, insisting Ukrainian strikes against Russian energy facilities had continued throughout the supposed pause.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Novak accused Ukraine of showing little interest in an energy ceasefire, while Moscow warned it would retaliate against further attacks. Peskov also blamed Kiev’s unwillingness to pursue peace for undermining Washington’s diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
