Popular U.S. media commentator Candace Owens has revealed she is being sued by Brigitte Macron, in what she calls an unprecedented international defamation case.
In a video posted to her podcast, Owens responded to the lawsuit by describing it as a politically motivated public relations strategy aimed at suppressing her reporting on the Macron couple.
According to Owens, the suit was filed in a U.S. court without prior notice to her legal team, but shared in advance with legacy media outlets like the Financial Times and CBS News.
The lawsuit follows Owens’ controversial video series ‘Becoming Brigitte’ in which she speculates about Brigitte Macron’s gender and background—claims Macron has previously denied. French courts recently dismissed an earlier defamation claim by Macron against two French journalists over similar allegations.
Owens argues the lawsuit aims not to win in court but to stifle dissent and discredit her character. She asserts that her team attempted to contact the Macrons prior to publishing the series to offer an interview and request comment, but were rebuffed. The complaint, according to Owens, accuses her of “relentless bullying” and contains unrelated character attacks, including allegations of promoting antisemitic tropes and conspiracy theories—claims she firmly denies.

The case is filed in Delaware and marks a rare instance of a sitting First Lady pursuing legal action against a foreign journalist. Legal experts cited by the Financial Times suggest the lawsuit faces an uphill battle under U.S. defamation law, which requires proof of “actual malice” when public figures are involved.
Owens says she is prepared to fight the case in court and welcomes the opportunity for discovery. “This isn’t about justice—it’s about intimidation,” she claimed. “But they picked the wrong person.”
“On behalf of the entire world, I will see you in court,” Owens told her 4 million YouTube followers, after having called Macron a “sick” and “disgusting” person and part of a “group of perverts that run the world.”
