Steve Bannon released from prison

Steve Bannon, former White House chief strategist and ally of ex-President Donald Trump, has been released from a Connecticut prison following a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress.

Bannon’s imprisonment stemmed from his refusal to comply with a subpoena issued by the committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot.

Initially sentenced in October 2022, Bannon had been granted bail while appealing the conviction but was ultimately required to serve the term.

Upon his early morning release, he was greeted by his daughter and reportedly plans to address the public in New York, resuming his radio show the same day.

Despite his imprisonment, Bannon maintained his opposition to the Biden administration, describing his incarceration as a politically motivated “show trial” in which he was a “political prisoner.”

He remains embroiled in further ‘lawfare’, facing fraud and money laundering charges in New York over accusations of misusing funds raised for a US-Mexico border wall. Bannon has pleaded not guilty to these charges, with the trial scheduled for December, and continues to appeal his contempt conviction in the federal court.
