Trump calls for death penalty for immigrants who kill Americans

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed the death penalty for immigrants convicted of killing American citizens or law enforcement officers, intensifying his hardline stance on immigration ahead of a potential return to the White House.

Speaking to supporters in Aurora, Colorado, on Friday, Trump claimed that the city has been overrun by criminal gangs due to what he called lax border policies under President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump accused Harris of allowing an “army of illegal alien gang members” to settle in the U.S., particularly in Aurora, where an influx of around 40,000 Venezuelan immigrants since 2022 has sparked concerns about rising crime.

Trump vowed to launch “Operation Aurora” to expel foreign gangs, promising the “largest deportation operation in American history” if re-elected. The former president’s comments come as immigration remains a contentious issue in his campaign, with more than 10.6 million immigrants entering the country since Biden took office, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data.
