US Senator Ron Johnson says federal health agencies under the Joe Biden administration failed to warn the public about potential safety risks linked to COVID-19 vaccines, alleging internal records show officials were aware of concerns but downplayed them.
Johnson said millions of pages of documents obtained from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) indicate authorities “hid the signal” of a link between mRNA vaccines and myocarditis, describing it as a “serious safety concern” that was not communicated to doctors or the public.
According to Johnson, the documents show officials identified myocarditis risks as early as 2021 but did not act transparently, while later safety monitoring systems also flagged potential stroke risks among people over 65 receiving booster shots.
He further alleged that internal communications from late 2022 show efforts to minimise the significance of these findings, including edits to a January 2023 HHS communications plan that downplayed an ischemic stroke signal linked to the Pfizer booster.
“They admitted there was a signal in myocarditis & they hid it. They didn’t warn the public. They didn’t warn doctors,” Johnson said, adding that the records point to a broader failure by agencies including the CDC and FDA to promptly disclose emerging safety concerns during the vaccine rollout.
