Critical incident in Glendene – man in custody (updated)

Police are responding to an incident in Glendene after it was reported a firearm was discharged outside a residential address this afternoon.

On arrival, two people have been located deceased at the address.

Cordons are in place on Barrys Rd, and locals are asked to avoid the area.

Enquiries are underway to locate a person involved.

Police urge witnesses to contact them or make yourself known to Police in the area.

Police have taken a man into custody following a firearms incident in Glendene earlier this afternoon.

A homicide investigation is now underway after two people were located deceased at a Barrys Rd address.

Following enquiries, Police have approached a Te Atatū Peninsula address and taken a man into custody.

He is being spoken to in relation to the two deaths.

A scene examination is currently underway at the Barrys Rd address.

Cordons will remain in place and locals will see an increased Police presence in the area.

‘Police understand this was an alarming incident for local residents and we would like to reassure the community that at this stage, we are not seeking anyone else,’ said Detective Inspector John Sutton, Waitematā CIB.

‘The investigation is in its very early stages and we are still asking any witnesses to contact Police on 105 quoting 220715/6707.’
