Police are continuing to respond to a crash on State Highway 3, Eltham that took place this morning shortly before 6am.
At this stage, it remains unclear the number of occupants in one of the vehicles and wider enquiries are being conducted.
The Disaster Victim Identification unit is also assisting the Serious Crash Unit at the scene.
An examination of the vehicle is underway, and the road is expected to be closed for a few more hours.
