‘The Feelers’ frontman admits refusing blood test

Lead singer of popular Kiwi band ‘The Feelers’ James Reid has admitted to refusing a blood test after being stopped by police in Christchurch on Boxing Day.

The initial charge of failing to stop for police was withdrawn, leaving Reid facing a charge of refusing to provide a blood specimen — an offense that carries a maximum sentence of two years’ imprisonment and a $6000 fine.

Appearing in the Christchurch District Court today, Reid’s lawyer said his client was struggling with a serious alcohol problem.

Sentencing is set for May 1.

Reid had been observed driving significantly over the speed limit and provided insufficient breath samples before refusing the blood test.

Known for his significant contribution to New Zealand’s music scene with The Feelers, Reid has previously faced similar charges.

The Feelers were formed in 1993 and achieved commercial success with their debut album Supersystem.
