Actor Donald Sutherland passes away at 88

Renowned Canadian actor Donald Sutherland, known for his roles in films such as The Hunger Games and Don’t Look Now, has died at the age of 88 after a long illness.

His son actor Kiefer Sutherland announced the news.

Donald Sutherland’s career spanned over half a century with nearly 200 credits to his name, showcasing his versatility in a wide range of roles. Tributes poured in from colleagues and the public alike.

Sutherland’s career began in the 1960s with roles in war films like The Dirty Dozen, Kelly’s Heroes, and M*A*S*H.

He gained prominence in the 1970s with diverse roles, including an IRA member in The Eagle Has Landed and a college professor in National Lampoon’s Animal House.

In the 1980s, he starred in the Oscar-winning Ordinary People. Despite his numerous significant roles, Sutherland was never nominated for an Oscar but received an honorary Academy Award in 2017.

Known for his political activism, he protested the Vietnam War and incorporated his beliefs into his roles, such as in The Hunger Games series. Sutherland’s memoir, Made Up, But Still True, is set to be published in November.
