Man arrested following Whakatu incident
One person has been arrested following a Police operation in Whakatu, Hawke’s Bay.
A person of interest wanted in relation to a number of previous offences was sighted by Police just after 9:30 this morning, which led to a Police response that included several streets in Whakatu being cordoned off.
The person entered a residential address on Station Road, making verbal threats. The Armed Offenders Squad, Police Dog Unit and the Police Negotiation Team were then called to assist as a precaution.
Just after 1:30pm Friday, a 37-year-old man was arrested without further incident.
He will be facing a number of charges in relation to this incident and investigations are ongoing.
All cordons have now been lifted. We wish to thank residents for their cooperation and understanding while Police worked to resolve this matter.
Fatal crash, Te Kamo
Police can confirm one person has died following a crash in Te Kamo on Friday afternoon.
Emergency services responded to the single vehicle crash on Church Road at about 3.13pm.
Sadly, one person was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Serious Crash Unit and Kaumatua attended and an investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
Fatal crash, Hawke’s Bay
A woman has died following a crash on Hawke’s Bay Expressway on Wednesday 14 August.
The vehicle crashed on the side of SH2, near the Kennedy Road off-ramp, around 12pm.
The driver and sole occupant was critically injured.
She was transported to Wellington Hospital, where she sadly died yesterday.
Next-of-kin have been advised.
Man arrested after being caught out by Police, Waihi
Waikato Police have arrested a suspected repeat offender after he tried to sneak away from the scene of the crime in Waihi yesterday evening.
Around 7pm, Police were notified a known man, believed to have previously pilfered items from the Waihi Transfer Station along with the CCTV cameras, was onsite again.
Cordons were established in the area but after a lengthy period of searching the area to locate him, units were stood down.
Thinking the coast was clear, the man left his hiding place and was quickly taken into custody by staff who had remained in the area.
The 28-year-old man has been charged with burglary, possession of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine utensils.
He is due to appear in Hamilton District Court today 17 August.
