Albanese defends purchase of AUD $4.3 million clifftop mansion

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has insisted he still understands the challenges of “struggle street”, despite recently purchasing a luxury AUD $4.3 million clifftop mansion on the New South Wales Central Coast.

Albanese, who bought the property with his fiancée Jodie Haydon, acknowledged his improved financial situation but referenced his experience growing up in public housing with his single mother. He reiterated his commitment to “helping Australians” secure homes, whether through public housing, private rentals, or home ownership.

Albanese dismissed rumours that the purchase signaled plans for early retirement, clarifying that he intends to stay in his current role for the foreseeable future.

The property, a four-bedroom home with ocean views, was purchased at a discount compared to its previous sale in 2021. In addition to this new acquisition, the Prime Minister owns other properties, including a Marrickville home and an investment rental in Sydney, which he plans to sell for a potential profit. While his former tenant criticised Albanese for evicting him amid Australia’s housing crisis, Albanese said the decision was influenced by his upcoming wedding.
