Australian Senator disrupts King Charles’ visit with ‘anti-colonial’ protest

Indigenous senator Lidia Thorpe caused a stir by shouting anti-colonial slogans during a visit of King Charles to parliament, demanding the return of Indigenous land and accusing the British monarchy of overseeing “genocide.”

Thorpe’s protest, which came after the king’s speech, included declarations that King Charles is “not my king” and criticisms of Australia’s colonial history.

“Give us our land back. Give us what you stole from us – our bones, our skulls our babies, our people. You destroyed our lives. Give us a treaty! We want a treaty in this country!”, she yelled before being whisked away by security.

Known for her outspoken opposition to the monarchy, Thorpe has a history of political stunts, including her modified oath during her swearing-in ceremony.

  1. Yes the British treated the Aboriginals appallingly and yes I think Australia should be a republic but looking at how entrenched these vested interests are, I think Australia for Australians is a long way off…same here in NZ……just look at these politicians slobbering over these archaic Royal titles……
