A shooting in the remote Coromandel has left one person dead and another with serious injuries.

Police were called to The 309 Road, near Coromandel town, shortly after 2 p.m. this afternoon.

Upon arrival, officers found two individuals with gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by members of the public, who performed CPR on one of the victims, one person died at the scene. The second victim was airlifted to Auckland City Hospital in serious condition by a Westpac rescue helicopter.

A large number of emergency services attended the scene, including one ambulance, a first responders unit, and two helicopters. A St John spokesperson confirmed they were notified of the incident just before 2 p.m.

Police have arrested one person in connection with the incident and are not seeking anyone else at this time. Charges are being considered.

The 309 Road remains closed, and authorities have advised the public to avoid the area. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the shooting.

Further updates will be provided by police when more information is available.

  1. This is somewhat sad and tragic, but it’s being OVER-reported on RNZ, TVNZ, online, etc.
A psy-ops to remove the remainder of the firearms perhaps?
Noteworthy is that those who were shot were ‘Pig Hunters’…
And nothing about who pulled the trigger, or why…
