Police have arrested a second funeral director as part of an ongoing investigation into the mishandling of burials at Auckland’s Waikumete Cemetery following the 2023 floods.
The man, arrested on Friday, has been charged with obtaining money by deception, with police also investigating allegations of fraud.
Investigators are examining claims that human remains were inappropriately handled at the cemetery’s mausoleum.
Last month, former Tipene Funerals employee Fiona Bakulich was charged with similar offenses and is set for sentencing in April.
Police say the investigation is ongoing, and further charges may follow.
The arrested man is due to appear in Auckland District Court on March 20.
