A New York Times investigation has detailed allegations that Errol Musk, the 79-year-old father of Elon Musk, sexually abused at least five of his children over a 30-year period.
Police reports, social workers, and family accounts describe incidents dating back to 1993, when his then four-year-old stepdaughter accused him of molestation. The girl and other family members later alleged repeated abuse.
South African police confirmed investigations were opened, but charges were either withdrawn or dropped due to insufficient evidence. In 2009, the stepdaughter filed a protection order citing abuse of herself, her siblings, and stepsiblings, which was granted by a magistrate.
The investigation also revealed a complex family history. Errol Musk fathered a child with his former stepdaughter when she was in her 20s, and they later had a second child together. In 2022, relatives claimed their young son accused Errol of inappropriate touching, though police said evidence was insufficient to proceed. Immigration and court documents show repeated attempts by family members to seek Elon Musk’s help, including letters urging him to intervene.
Errol Musk has denied all allegations, describing them as fabrications motivated by money. He has never been convicted of any crime.
