French lawmakers will vote on 19 November on a proposal to grant legal status to an estimated 300,000 to 400,000 illegal migrants who have worked in France for more than six months.

Introduced by Socialist MP Paul Christophle, the Bill followed Spain’s decision to legalise half a million illegal migrants. France’s centre-left presidential contender Raphael Glucksmann is expected to support the proposal.

However, centre-right and nationalist lawmakers have signalled clear opposition to the Bill.
