Golden Globes viewers on Sunday night voiced disappointment over the absence of Ricky Gervais, with many calling the show a “waste of air time” without his signature no-holds-barred humour.
Gervais, who hosted the ceremony five times between 2010 and 2020, became known for his fearless jabs at Hollywood elites. Despite new host Nikki Glaser’s bold jokes about Ozempic, Hollywood parties, and producers’ scandals, some fans remained unimpressed.
Social media buzzed with comments demanding Gervais’ return, with one user declaring they would only watch the awards “when Ricky Gervais is speaking.”
However, Glaser’s performance earned praise from some who felt she was the best host since Gervais, though others noted she held back compared to his sharp-edged style.
Ahead of the ceremony, Gervais shared hypothetical jokes he might have used, targeting everything from celebrity meetings with the Pope to Hollywood scandals, maintaining his reputation for controversy.
Sat in the bath wondering about what I would say if I were hosting The Golden Globes on Sunday. It’s been a pretty good year for material 😂 pic.twitter.com/cCelTdy0Eb
