Movie armourer sentenced in ‘Rust’ set shooting

Movie weapons supervisor Hannah Gutierrez-Reed has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for her role in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the Western film Rust.

Convicted in March of involuntary manslaughter, Gutierrez-Reed faced emotional testimonials during her sentencing this week, including accusations of negligence and demands for greater safety measures on film sets.

Prosecutors attributed the tragedy to Gutierrez-Reed’s failure to adhere to gun safety protocols, including the unwitting introduction of live ammunition onto the set of Rust, where its use was strictly prohibited.

Despite pleading for leniency and denying malicious intent Gutierrez-Reed was met with a stern rebuke from New Mexico Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer, who also presides over the case against Alec Baldwin, the lead actor and co-producer of Rust. Baldwin, who was handling the firearm during the rehearsal, faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter and is set for trial in July.

In delivering the sentence, the judge told Gutierrez-Reed her actions where reckless, and transformed a safe weapon into a lethal one, resulting in tragic consequences.

Witnesses, including Hutchins’ agent and close friends, painted a picture of the cinematographer as a talented rising star whose life was cut short due to negligence. Calls for industry-wide reforms echoed throughout the courtroom preaching the need for stringent safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Hutchins’ grieving mother, Olga Solovey told the court of her pain in losing her daughter and the devastating impact of the incident on her family. Ukrainian relatives of Hutchins are pursuing damages from Baldwin in a civil action.

  1. Who cares it’s Hollyweird and that place stopped being interesting about twenty years ago. Like any failing business they will get the occasional thing right but with all the politics and gender ideology they are pumping into even kids films they will go under and hopefully soon. All the while proclaiming their down fall is driven by toxic white males instead of the large Hollyweird investments by Blackrock and Vanguard and others all pushing ESG & DIE scores which are turning people off all backgrounds off from them and their product.

  2. Will she ever accept her utter stupidity, she has 18 months to think about it. Will that ars*hole Alec Baldwin ever accept to take any responsibility? A hopeless case, what a couple of loosers.

    • What I wanna know is why in the hell are they using LIVE ammunition on a movie set in any case? Have they never heard of blanks, caps or CGI? Very suspicious in the context of a popular conspiracy theory that she was producing a docu-series around Hollywood child trafficking with Anne Heche (an actress who mysteriously crashed her car a few months after this shooting – initially declared to have been full of drugs at the time of the crash, but a coroner later ruled that he could find nothing in her system during the autopsy).

And of course Baldwin will remain untouched as one of the Trump-hating elites, that’s just a given.

      • Yes that’s correct about Anne Heche, disturbing footage of her sitting bolt upright on the ambulance gurney moments after the car crashed.

Nothing happens without a reason. The armourer looks hard. Alex Baldwin is culpable.

  3. Had it been a male the sentance would be much longer and in a harder, unsafe prison. Thats not her fault but im just pointing it out that men are treated difrently. . Familiarity around wepons breeds complacency. Sadly, this has brought about the death of someone’s beloved daughter. I have two daughters. I can imagine not having one of them around just because vigilace wasn’t maintained.
